Puppy Grooming Introduction
Puppy Introduction Groom, Gold Coast
A short, gentle first salon visit for puppies. Built around getting them used to the room, the sounds and the handling, before we ever try a full groom.
Why a puppy's first groom matters
Most dogs who hate the groomer learned to hate it as a puppy. A clipper that buzzed too close, a person who was rushing, a bath that got rushed because a busy salon ran out of time. By the time those dogs are three or four years old, every visit is a battle.
The Puppy Introduction Groom is the opposite of that. It's a short, calm session focused on one thing, teaching your puppy that the studio is safe. We do enough work to keep them tidy, and we use the time to build positive associations with everything else they'll experience as adults.
Inside the puppy intro session
Tailored to your puppy's pace. If they're confident, we do more. If they're nervous, we slow down, take breaks and stop before they reach their limit.
- Light hygiene trim. Around the face, paws and bum so they stay clean and comfortable between visits.
- Soft brushing. Gets them used to having a brush moved through their coat in different directions, especially around sensitive spots.
- Face, leg and paw handling. Most dogs hate having their paws touched as adults because nobody handled their paws as puppies. We change that.
- Nail clipping. One nail at a time, with breaks. We'd rather miss a nail than create a fight over it.
- Clipper and dryer exposure. Turned on nearby, not used on them. They learn the sounds aren't scary while sitting safely with our groomer.
- Optional bath add-on. Gentle puppy shampoo if you'd like them washed. Just tick the bath option when you book.
Our calm studio is part of the service
Most salons run multiple dogs in the same room with stacked dryers and back-to-back bookings. The noise is constant. For an adult dog that grew up in salons, that's manageable. For an eight-week-old puppy with no reference for any of it, it's overwhelming.
Our Miami studio runs at low volume. Each groomer works with one dog at a time. The dryers we use are quieter than industrial salon dryers. The room sits between 22 and 24 degrees so puppies aren't shivering or panting. None of this is luxury, it's the baseline a puppy needs to learn the studio is safe.
How often should puppies come in?
For the first few months, every two to four weeks. Short, frequent visits build familiarity faster than one long visit every couple of months. By the time your puppy is six to eight months old, they should be ready for their first proper full groom without the desensitisation work taking up the session.
Most puppies need three to four intro sessions before they're ready for a full groom. Some need more, some need fewer. We'll let you know after each visit how they're tracking.
Puppy intro groom FAQ
How young can my puppy be?
We can start as soon as your puppy has had their second round of vaccinations, usually around 10 to 12 weeks. Earlier visits build the strongest habits, but we'll work with whatever age they are when you book.
Will my puppy get a haircut?
No, not in the intro sessions. We do tidies around the face, paws and rear so they stay clean, but a full breed cut takes time and energy a young puppy doesn't have. We hold off on full grooms until they're confident with the tools and the space.
What if my puppy is really nervous?
That's exactly what the session is built for. We go at your puppy's pace, take breaks, and stop early if we need to. A short session that ends on a calm note teaches them more than a long one that ends with them exhausted.
Can I stay with my puppy during the groom?
Generally not. Most puppies settle faster when their owner isn't visible, the same way kids settle faster at daycare drop-off. We'll chat at the start, take them through, and message you when they're done.
What's included if I add a bath?
Warm water wash with gentle puppy shampoo, soft towel dry, then a low-noise blow dry if your puppy tolerates it. If they don't tolerate the dryer yet, we towel dry and pop them in our heated drying area instead.

Puppy Grooming FAQs
Do I need to book an appointment in advance, or do you accept walk-ins?
While we do our best to accommodate walk-ins, we highly recommend booking an appointment in advance to ensure your dog gets the attention they deserve. Our schedule can fill up quickly, especially during busy times, so reserving a spot guarantees that your dog’s wash will be at a time that’s convenient for you. You can easily book your appointment online, over the phone, or in person at our Miami, Gold Coast location.
What if my dog is nervous or anxious about baths?
We understand that some dogs can be nervous or anxious about bath grooming, and our team is experienced in making the process as stress-free as possible. We use gentle handling techniques, soothing voices, and positive reinforcement to help your dog feel calm and comfortable. For particularly anxious dogs, we can take extra time to ensure they feel safe throughout the process. Our goal is to create a positive experience that helps your puppy build confidence and even enjoy the visit.
Can I stay and watch while my puppy is being groomed?
We understand that some owners like to stay with their dogs during their groom. While we’re happy to accommodate this in most cases, we’ve found that some dogs are more relaxed when their owner isn’t in view. You’re welcome to stay and watch from our designated viewing area, where you can see the process without distracting your dog. Our team will keep you informed every step of the way, so you can feel confident that your puppy is in good hands.
