Elanora with a dog: the short answer
Elanora has no beach of its own, but it's one of the best suburbs on the Gold Coast for a dog who likes to run. The star is Tallebudgera Dog Island, the off-leash area on an island in the lake at Eddie Kornhauser Recreational Reserve, with agility gear and water on every side. Elanora Oval is the suburb's second council off-leash area, Schuster Park has another just over the Tallebudgera line, and the off-leash sand at Tallebudgera Beach is a short drive east. The rule to remember: the Tallebudgera Creek foreshore between the highway bridge and the groyne is dog prohibited, lead or no lead.
We're the dog groomers up the highway in Miami. Park rules below come from City of Gold Coast park pages and its Animal Control Area Register, checked on 13/10/2026. If a sign on the day says otherwise, the sign wins.
Tallebudgera Dog Island at Eddie Kornhauser Reserve
Council calls it the dog exercise area in the northern section of Eddie Kornhauser Recreational Reserve: spacious, with agility equipment. On council's map it's the whole island in the lake, so dogs can loop the grass, hit the agility gear and come back soaked. Council's page confirms the agility gear, a drinking fountain, taps and toilets, but doesn't describe the island as fully fenced, so if recall is still a work in progress, bring a long line. Check the depth at the water's edge before the ball goes in.
Dogs stay on lead walking in and out. The playground near Casuarina Drive and the reserve's equestrian area are dog prohibited. Carry your own poo bags. Council's Eddie Kornhauser Recreational Reserve page has the trail maps.

The quieter local, with a signed off-leash area, toilets, a drinking fountain and a BMX and skate facility. Sports teams get right of use during training and games, and council asks dog owners to clear out while mowing is on, so early mornings and off-season weekdays suit best.
Schuster Park, Tallebudgera
Joe Schuster's old dairy farm is now about 68 hectares of parkland beside Tallebudgera Creek. Walkers can come in from Nineteenth Avenue on the Elanora side, and gates are open 6am to 6pm. There's a designated off-leash area, but plenty is off limits: the playground, pony club field, dressage arena, habitat area and the whole peninsula, a conservation area with its own boardwalk. Koalas are regularly spotted along the creek, which is why the lead stays on outside the signed zone. Check council's Schuster Park page for the map.

Tallebudgera Creek: where dogs can and can't go
Council's register lists the Tallebudgera Creek foreshore from the Tallebudgera Bridge to the groyne as dog prohibited, along with the swimming area and foreshore at Tallebudgera Tourist Park. That's the calm creek beach everyone pictures when they think of Talle.
The legal swim is on the ocean side. Tallebudgera Beach is off-leash from north of Lifeguard Tower 16 up to the creek entrance, and no dogs within 200 metres of the flags. One catch for 2026: council is repairing the creek training wall after Tropical Cyclone Alfred, with works scheduled from April to December, and dogs must be on lead in the off-leash area on weekdays from 7am to 5pm. Walks around the lakes and bushland
Eddie Kornhauser is the easy everyday walk: a network of level, hard-surface paths with shady picnic spots over the water, good for puppies and seniors alike. Keep the lead on until you reach the island.
The bush is a different story. The Elanora Conservation Area off Westminster Boulevarde is dog prohibited, and so is the Schuster Park peninsula boardwalk. Both look like perfect dog walks from the car park. Neither is.
Coffee with your dog near Elanora
Elanora is more parks than cafes for dog owners. We haven't found a cafe inside the suburb that states its own dog policy, so our pick is a few minutes east.
Dune Cafe, Palm Beach. Breakfast and lunch overlooking Currumbin Creek at Palm Beach Parklands, near the Rockview Park off-leash zone. Dog tables are limited and popular, so book on Dune Cafe's website.

Vets and grooming near Elanora
The nearest clinics in our Gold Coast vets guide are Pet Doctors Palm Beach in Palm Beach and The Vet Lounge in Currumbin. After hours, AEC Gold Coast in Varsity Lakes and SASH Gold Coast in Robina are open 24 hours.

After the walk: ticks and lake mud
Elanora backs onto creek bushland and wetland, prime paralysis tick country. After every walk, run your hands over your dog's head, neck, ears and between the toes, and read our guide to paralysis ticks and snakes on the Gold Coast for the warning signs.
Then there's the lake. A morning on Dog Island leaves silt and agility dirt down at the skin, and thick double coats stay damp for hours. A freshwater rinse helps. When the pond smell is still there two days later, that's our job.

Where can I let my dog off lead in Elanora?
At the island dog exercise area in Eddie Kornhauser Recreational Reserve, known locally as Tallebudgera Dog Island, and at Elanora Oval on Park Court. Schuster Park, a walk from Nineteenth Avenue, has a third.
Can dogs swim in Tallebudgera Creek?
Not on the foreshore between the Tallebudgera Bridge and the groyne, or at the Tallebudgera Tourist Park swimming area. Both are dog prohibited. Use Tallebudgera Beach on the ocean side instead, on lead on weekdays from 7am to 5pm until the training wall works finish.
Can I walk my dog on the Schuster Park peninsula boardwalk?
No. The peninsula is a conservation area and dog prohibited. Use the signed off-leash area in the main park.
What's the closest vet to Elanora?
Pet Doctors Palm Beach and The Vet Lounge in Currumbin. After hours, AEC Gold Coast at Varsity Lakes or SASH Gold Coast at Robina, both open 24 hours.

Got my senior queen Lady (husky x GSD) groomed here when her regular groomers couldn’t fit her in (they would often cancel as well due to her size and hair type). Pets Juicy did an incredible job - Lady came back happy, smelling fresh and well de-shedded. Had such a good experience at Pets Juicy. My dog Monty had the worst mats in his ears and I was honestly so stressed about it. The team were so patient and gentle with him, especially because he’s a bit silly and crazy They really took their time and made sure he was comfortable, and did an amazing job. I honestly wish I took before photos of how matted his ears were because the difference is crazy. So grateful for how kind they were with him. Definitely recommend!

Best haircut in 16 years for my spoodle
I’ve brought my two pups to Pet’s Juicy a few times now, and every visit has been such a positive experience. The team is incredibly gentle, caring, and clearly loves what they do! Sami looked and felt absolutely fabulous after her long haired deshedding service. The team did an awesome job with my golden girl who hates her nails being trimmed. Our vet couldn’t manage trimming Sami’s nails without sedation but the team ensured she had a proper and perfect dogicure. Being a water lover, Sami had some matting which the team were able to also tidy. 10/10
Awesome open space, needed for our local area
This was our first time at Pets Juicy and we were very impressed with our visit. It’s a very friendly space and I liked how my pup was able to hang out with the day care dogs while he waited for his cut. Also the staff was very accommodating, booking was easy and prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be back!

Our 15yold Moodle has lots of bumps and lumps. Had been avoiding groomers due to fear of distress. Had been recommended Pets Juicy and couldn’t be happier. Easy to book, lovely reception on arrival and felt very comfortable. And in picking up our dog, he was happy calm and looked wonderful.

Highly recommend the Pets juicy team to look after your furry babies. I was so hesitant and nervous as I’d never had my dogs previously looked after but moving interstate and trying to take our family to theme parks left me no choice but to bite the bullet and try. The team truly cares for the dogs as if they were their own, and I feel so comfortable leaving them here for daycare knowing they’re in safe hands. I would highly recommend Pets Juicy . I popped in this morning to see if they could possibly trim my 14 year old Boxers nail's.
I was in Awe... usually Ruby is a shaking mess and stressed in new situations.
Shane took Ruby through to the grooming room and tender to those nails while I waited.
What I witnessed was a serene/happy atmosphere in the doggy daycare area and Ruby was relaxed on the grooming table while her nails were attended to.

Amazing service! After being told by multiple groomers across the GC they weren’t taking on anymore large breed clients, I came across Pets Juicy who were more than happy to help. Both dogs groomed the next day and was better priced than I expected! Will definitely be using them from now on.
