Dog-Friendly Pimpama, Ormeau and Jacobs Well: Fenced Parks, Cafe and Stays
The Pimpama, Ormeau and Jacobs Well basics
The far northern Gold Coast is all new estates, young families and a lot of puppies, and council has been building dog parks to match. Between Pimpama, Ormeau and Jacobs Well, council lists six fenced off-leash areas, three of them with agility equipment, plus a long list of open off-leash parks. Jacobs Well adds a dog-friendly tourist park on the Broadwater. The catch: the area's best-known green spaces, Pimpama Sports Hub and the Pimpama River Conservation Area, aren't off-leash at all, and one bans dogs completely. Here's what council actually says, park by park.
Last checked 28/10/2026. Every park rule here comes from the council or park authority's own pages, every venue from its own website or socials plus its Google listing, and each fact was checked a second time before we published.
Fenced dog parks: the quick list
| Park | Suburb | Fenced | Agility |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rufous Whistler Park, Beadman Street | Pimpama | Yes | Yes |
| Propinqua Reserve, The Heights Boulevard | Pimpama | Yes | Not listed |
| Vennor Reserve, 17 Vennor Drive | Ormeau | Yes | Yes |
| Maidenwell Park, 71A Maidenwell Road | Ormeau | Yes, plus an obedience training area | Not listed |
| Big Blue Gum Park, River Run Circuit | Ormeau Hills | Yes | Yes |
| Riesenweber Park, 27 Bay Drive | Jacobs Well | Yes | Not listed |
All six are confirmed on council's own Park Finder pages. "Not listed" means council doesn't mention agility gear, not that there's definitely none.
Pimpama dog parks
Rufous Whistler Park, Beadman Street. The pick of Pimpama. Council says the off-leash area is fenced and contains dog agility equipment, and the park also has a skate park, basketball court, playgrounds, open green space and picnic facilities. See council's Rufous Whistler Park page.
Propinqua Reserve, The Heights Boulevard. A fenced off-leash dog exercise area in The Heights estate, with a basketball court, two picnic shelters, barbecues and a toilet block. Council named Propinqua Reserve in its 2026 review of dog areas, so check the signs in case the rules change. See council's Propinqua Reserve page.
Open off-leash areas. Council doesn't describe these as fenced, so they suit dogs with good recall:
- Gainsborough Parklands, Great Sandy Circuit: off-leash area, off-street parking and a sports-themed playground
- Jasper Park, 11a Bedford Road: off-leash area for exercising and socialising, plus a picnic shelter
- Aquila Reserve, 37 Swan Road: off-leash area
- Baldwin Park, corner Cotman Way and Sudbury Drive: off-leash area
Two Pimpama spots that aren't what you'd expect
Pimpama Sports Hub is on-lead only. Several dog park directories list a dog park at the Sports Hub on Rifle Range Road. Council's own page says dogs must be walked on a leash and are banned from the playgrounds. If you want the fenced agility park, head to Rufous Whistler Park instead.
Pimpama River Conservation Area is a dog prohibited area. Council's page is blunt: the whole park is dog prohibited. It's a wetland and bird habitat, so this one is a solo walk. Pimpama River Parklands on Reedmans Road at Ormeau is the dog-legal river option, but it's on-lead only.
Ormeau and Ormeau Hills dog parks
Vennor Reserve, 17 Vennor Drive. Council describes a fenced, designated off-leash dog area with agility equipment, where dogs can exercise and socialise under effective control. The best-equipped park in Ormeau. See council's Vennor Reserve page.
Maidenwell Park, 71A Maidenwell Road. A neighbourhood park with a fenced, designated off-leash dog area and a separate dog obedience training area. Ideal for puppies working on the basics.
Big Blue Gum Park, River Run Circuit, Ormeau Hills. A fenced off-leash dog exercise area with agility equipment. Council says the dog area and the playground are on the Terania Avenue side of the park.
Peachey Park, 2 Peachey Road. An open off-leash area under effective control.
Upper Ormeau Park on Barrenjoey Drive is on-lead only.
Jacobs Well
The foreshore is on-lead. Council's page for Lions Park on Pimpama Jacobs Well Road says there's no off-leash dog area in the park, and dogs are banned from the playground and from the swimming enclosure north of the Jacobs Well Air Sea Rescue. Gold Coast Tourist Parks lists a dog-friendly beach within walking distance of its Jacobs Well park, and under council's rules that means on a lead. So it's a lovely spot for a paddle and a sniff on a lead, not a run.
Off-leash in Jacobs Well:
- Riesenweber Park, 27 Bay Drive: a fenced off-leash dog exercise area beside sports fields, tennis courts, a playground and a skate area
- Helmore Park, 3a Samuel Court: council lists the park as a designated off-leash dog area
- Dungara Park, Stapylton Jacobs Well Road: an off-leash area council describes as good for training and socialising
Jacobs Well Tourist Park: a Broadwater stay that takes dogs
Of the Gold Coast Tourist Parks group, only Jacobs Well and Kirra Beach take dogs, and Jacobs Well does it all year round. Here's what its pet policy and park page say:
- Designated dog-friendly sites and two-bedroom cabins
- Up to 2 dogs on a site, 1 dog in a cabin
- No dogs with tent bookings
- Proof of current vaccinations before arrival, and dogs must be registered with their home council
- Restricted breeds under Queensland law aren't accepted
- Dogs on a lead, and not in the camp kitchen, barbecue areas or amenities blocks, or in any cabin or lodge that isn't a designated dog-friendly cabin
- A fenced off-leash area in the park
- A signed pet waiver before you arrive
The park doesn't publish a pet fee or size limit online, so ask when you book. See Jacobs Well Tourist Park's pet policy.
Address: 1161 Pimpama Jacobs Well Road, Jacobs Well QLD 4208
Phone: 1300 672 760
Worth knowing: Gold Coast Tourist Parks' own pet policy says only its Jacobs Well and Kirra Beach parks take dogs, so the Main Beach and Broadwater tourist parks are a no. For the city-wide list, see our pet friendly accommodation guide and dog-friendly caravan parks guide.
Coffee with the dog: KOVI Cafe, Ormeau
KOVI announced on its own Instagram in 2026 that it's officially dog friendly, and in October 2026 it put out a new dog water bowl for its four-legged regulars. Dog-friendly listings say dogs are welcome in the outdoor dining area and there's a puppuccino on the menu. It's a small local with 4.8 stars on Google. Keep your dog under control and off the chairs.
Address: Shop 11b, 3 Vaughan Drive, Ormeau QLD 4208

Pubs. We checked Jacobs Well Hotel, Pimpama Tavern and Pimpama Pavilion. None states a dog policy on its own website, so we're not listing them as dog friendly, even though some directories do. Ask the venue before you bring your dog.

Ticks, grass seeds and heat
Bushy suburban parks are paralysis tick country. Check your dog's head, neck, ears, armpits and between the toes after every walk, and look for grass seeds in paws and ears in the warmer months. On hot days, walk early or late, as footpaths heat up fast. Our ticks and snakes guide covers what to look for.
