Dog grooming in Mermaid Beach

Mermaid Beach is the quiet stretch of the coast, fronted mostly by homes and units rather than towers, with Hedges Avenue running parallel to the sand. Pets Juicy is right next door in Miami, about 5 minutes south down the Gold Coast Highway, which makes us the obvious stop between a sandy beach walk and a clean couch. We keep your dog with the same groomer wherever we can, and we never rush a job to squeeze the next one in.

How far from Mermaid Beach

About 5 minutes south down the Gold Coast Highway to Mountain View Avenue in Miami. We're the next suburb along, so the drive is over before the dog has worked out it's not going to the beach.

Built for Mermaid Beach dogs

Mermaid Beach is our closest neighbour, a long, quiet run of homes and units between Hedges Avenue and the sand. Dogs here live on the beach walk, and it shows in the coat.

Being next door makes the easy version easy: drop off on the way to a morning walk, pick up a clean, brushed dog later in the day. Small coats grow over eyes and between pads faster than most owners expect, so a tidy between full grooms is often the smart booking here.

The breeds we see most from Mermaid Beach

Around Mermaid Beach we regularly see Cavoodles, Maltese, Shih Tzus, Pomeranians and small breed crosses. They're small coats with big opinions and plenty of hair that ends up over the eyes. Coat notes for the regulars: Cavoodle, Maltese, Shih Tzu and Pomeranian.

Beach walks and off-leash spots around Mermaid Beach

Mermaid Beach isn't an off-leash beach. Dogs can walk it on a leash, and council rules say the leash stays on down to the low watermark. Dogs are also banned within 200 metres of the flagged swimming areas, and Mermaid Beach has 2 of them: Tower 26 at Montana Avenue near the surf club, patrolled every day of the year, and Tower 25 at Hilda Street, patrolled from November to April and in school holidays. For an off-leash run, Pratten Park on Old Burleigh Road, at the Broadbeach end of Hedges Avenue, has a designated area, although the Oceanway footpath through it's excluded. Closer to us, Ernie Tebb Park has an off-leash area on Mountain View Avenue, Miami, the same street as the studio. The City's 3 off-leash beaches, Tallebudgera, Palm Beach and The Spit, are all a drive away. On Hedges Avenue and the Oceanway, the lead stays on.

Even a leashed walk along the waterline sends salt and sand into the coat, the pads and the soft hair behind the ears. Salt left to dry pulls moisture out of the skin, and sand that settles near the skin rubs. A warm wash and a proper blow dry sorts both, and we're about 5 minutes away.
