Burleigh is family-heavy, surf-driven and unapologetically dog-obsessed. Morning laps up Burleigh Hill, coffee on James Street with a water bowl already waiting, an afternoon at the creek, then the slow walk home along the Esplanade. Most locals plan the week around the dog as much as the surf.

What that means for a groomer is specific. Burleigh dogs come to us with salt-dried coats, sand packed behind the ears and into the pads, and the particular matting you only get when a wet double coat dries in a car on the way home. Salt is the quiet problem. Left in a coat it dries the skin and makes the guard hairs brittle, so a dog that swims every second day needs a different wash schedule to one that walks the footpath.

We see a lot of Burleigh dogs on a rhythm rather than a one-off: a full groom every six to eight weeks, with a wash and blow dry dropped in between when the beach has won. 1. You book online, not over the phone. Pick the service, size and time. Afterpay is available at checkout. Online-only booking is deliberate: it means nobody is juggling a phone while holding a nervous whippet.
2. You tell us about your dog. Anxious, arthritic, hates the dryer, went badly somewhere else last time. All useful. None of it is a problem, and knowing in advance changes how we run the appointment.
3. Same groomer, every time. Shane heads up the team with Risa, Callie and Anna. We keep dogs with the same stylist wherever the diary allows, because a dog that recognises the person holding the clippers is a dog that stands still.
4. We work at the dog's pace. No stacked appointments, no rushing a senior dog through a dryer because the next one is waiting. If a dog needs a break, it gets one.
5. You get an honest update. If we found a hot spot, a grass seed, an ear that needs a vet or matting that meant we had to go shorter than you wanted, we tell you at pick-up and we tell you why.

The breeds we see most from Burleigh Heads

Around Burleigh we regularly groom Cavoodles, Border Collies, Golden Retrievers, Staffies and Labradors, with a steady run of Groodles and Spoodles from the newer estates back off the highway.

Beaches, parks and creeks around Burleigh Heads

Burleigh is spoiled for places to take a dog, but the rules are not the same everywhere and plenty of locals get this wrong.

Dogs are allowed on leash on most Gold Coast beaches, except in designated dog prohibited areas, and they are not permitted within 200 metres of the flagged areas. The City has designated only three beach locations where dogs can be exercised off leash: Tallebudgera Beach, Palm Beach and The Spit. That last point surprises a lot of people. Council rules do change, so it is worth checking the City of Gold Coast dog exercise areas page before you go. We last checked it on 11 August 2026.

For Burleigh locals that makes Tallebudgera the useful one, just over the creek to the south. It is also the reason we see so many Burleigh dogs mid-week: an off-leash beach session is a full-body sand event, and a warm wash and proper blow dry afterwards is the difference between a clean dog and a gritty one for the next fortnight.

Closer to us, Pizzey Park on the Miami and Mermaid Waters border has a fenced off-leash area, which is a two-minute drive from the studio. A few Burleigh clients make a morning of it: park run first, then straight to us while the dog is already tired and much easier to groom.
