Built for Robina dogs

Robina is master-planned in the best sense: proper parks, connected paths, lakes you can actually walk around, and back yards big enough that dogs get a genuine run without leaving home. It is a family suburb and the dogs reflect that, generally bigger and generally busier.

Being inland changes what we find. Robina dogs come in with far less salt and far more of everything else. Grass seed through spring and summer is the big one, lodging in pads, between toes, in armpits and down ears where owners never look. They do not work their way out and they can turn into a vet visit rather than a grooming job.

The second inland pattern is coat blowing. Without constant sea breeze and swimming, double-coated dogs in Robina hold onto dead undercoat for longer and then drop it all at once. A proper deshed with a real blow dry moves a genuinely alarming amount of hair and does more for shedding at home than anything you can buy.

What happens when you book

  1. You book online, not over the phone. Pick the service, size and time. Afterpay is available at checkout. Online-only booking is deliberate: it means nobody is juggling a phone while holding a nervous whippet.
  2. You tell us about your dog. Anxious, arthritic, hates the dryer, went badly somewhere else last time. All useful. None of it is a problem, and knowing in advance changes how we run the appointment.
  3. Same groomer, every time. Shane heads up the team with Risa, Callie and Anna. We keep dogs with the same stylist wherever the diary allows, because a dog that recognises the person holding the clippers is a dog that stands still.
  4. We work at the dog's pace. No stacked appointments, no rushing a senior dog through a dryer because the next one is waiting. If a dog needs a break, it gets one.
  5. You get an honest update. If we found a hot spot, a grass seed, an ear that needs a vet or matting that meant we had to go shorter than you wanted, we tell you at pick-up and we tell you why.

The breeds we see most from Robina

Around Robina we regularly groom Labradors, Golden Retrievers, Border Collies, Cavoodles, Groodles, Staffies and a solid run of Kelpies and Cattle Dogs from the properties out west of the Parkway.

Double coats are the theme, and they are the ones most often clipped when they should be deshed instead. Our breed notes explain the difference: Australian Cattle Dog grooming, Kelpie grooming, Border Collie grooming, Golden Retriever grooming, Groodle grooming and the full breed library.

We do not offer hand stripping, so if your wire-coated dog needs it we will tell you straight rather than clip a coat that should not be clipped.

Parks, lakes and the grass seed season

Robina Common, the lake circuits and the linked path network make this one of the better walking suburbs on the Coast. The trade-off arrives every spring.

Grass seed season runs through the warmer months and inland suburbs cop it worst. We check pads, between toes, armpits and ears on every dog as standard. If we find a seed we can reach safely we take it out and tell you. If it has gone in deep, we tell you to see a vet rather than dig at it, because that is a vet job and not a grooming one.

If your dog swims in the lakes rather than the sea, the coat comes back muddy rather than salty, which sounds better and is not necessarily. Silt settles into the undercoat the same way sand does, and on a Retriever or a Collie it compacts. A hose off at home moves what you can see. The rest needs a warm wash and a real blow dry.

For weekends further afield, our checked guides cover dog friendly parks, dog friendly walks and dog friendly day trips.

Questions from Robina dog owners

How long is the drive from Robina?

Around thirteen to fifteen minutes east via Robina Parkway and Bermuda Street to Mountain View Avenue, Miami. If the Parkway is banked up, coming down through Varsity is usually quicker. There is a loading zone out the front and free street parking either side.

Do you check for grass seeds?

On every dog, as standard, and Robina dogs are exactly why. We check pads, between toes, armpits and ears. If we find a seed we can reach safely we remove it and tell you. If it has gone in deep we will tell you to see a vet rather than dig at it, because at that point it is a vet job.

My double-coated dog sheds everywhere. Will clipping help?

Usually not, and on a double coat it can make things worse permanently. What actually reduces shedding at home is a proper deshed with a real blow dry, which pulls out the dead undercoat rather than cutting the guard hairs. Inland dogs tend to hold dead undercoat longer than beach dogs and then drop it all at once, so a deshed before the weather turns makes a noticeable difference.

What does a groom actually cost?

Full grooms start at $100 and washes start at $60. The final price depends on your dog's size, coat type and the condition it arrives in, which is why the booking page asks for size. A matted coat takes longer and costs more, and we would rather be upfront about that than surprise you at pick-up.

When are you open and how do I book?

Tuesday to Saturday, 8am to 4pm, at 1/22 Mountain View Avenue, Miami. Booking is online only, which keeps the phone quiet and the studio calm. Pick your service and size on the booking page and choose a time that suits.

Do you take Afterpay?

Yes. Afterpay is available at online checkout on grooming, washing and daycare, including daycare packages.

Can you handle nervous or senior dogs?

Yes, and it is a big part of what we do. Tell us in the booking notes. We work at the dog's pace, keep the same groomer across visits where we can, and skip the high-velocity dryer for dogs that find it frightening. For very anxious dogs we will often split the job across two shorter visits rather than push through one long one.

Given the drive, can I combine daycare and a groom?

Yes, and for Robina clients it is usually the smart way to do it. Full day daycare is $50 and half day is $35, capped at five hours. Book both and leave a note so we can line the timings up, and one trip covers the whole day.

Do you offer hand stripping?

No. We do not offer hand stripping. If your dog has a wire coat that genuinely needs it, we will say so rather than clip a coat that should not be clipped.
