Built for Mermaid Waters dogs
Mermaid Waters is canals, cul-de-sacs and back yards, which makes it a genuinely great suburb to own a dog in. Lake Hugh Muntz for the loop walk, Pizzey Park for the off-leash run, Q Super Centre for everything else, and a lot of homes where the water is at the end of the garden.
That last part is the bit that shows up on the grooming table. Canal water is brackish and it carries more silt than the surf does. Dogs that swim off a pontoon regularly come in with a coat that feels fine on top and is heavy and gritty underneath. It dulls the coat, it irritates skin that is already prone to it, and on anything with an undercoat it compacts.
The other Mermaid Waters pattern is the Pizzey Park dog: high energy, out every day, and carrying more grass seed and burr through spring and summer than the beach dogs do. We check pads, armpits and ears as standard, because that is where they hide and they do not work themselves out.

The breeds we see most from Mermaid Waters
Around Mermaid Waters we see a lot of Cavoodles, Groodles, Labradors, Golden Retrievers and Border Collies, with plenty of Staffies and a steady run of Spoodles and Moodles.
The double-coated and curly-coated dogs are the ones where regular booking really pays off, because both hide problems until they are expensive. Our breed notes go into it properly: Cavoodle grooming, Groodle grooming, Golden Retriever grooming, Border Collie grooming and the full breed library.
We do not offer hand stripping, so if your dog has a wire coat that genuinely needs it, we will tell you straight rather than clip it.
Pizzey Park, Lake Hugh Muntz and the water at the end of your garden
Mermaid Waters has the best off-leash setup in this part of the Coast, and it is worth knowing what it does to a coat.
Dogs are allowed on leash on most Gold Coast beaches, except in designated dog prohibited areas, and they are not permitted within 200 metres of the flagged areas. The City has designated only three beach locations where dogs can be exercised off leash: Tallebudgera Beach, Palm Beach and The Spit. That last point surprises a lot of people. Council rules do change, so it is worth checking the City of Gold Coast dog exercise areas page before you go. We last checked it on 11 August 2026.
Pizzey Park has a fenced off-leash dog area on the Miami and Mermaid Waters border, and it is about two minutes from our studio. It is the single most useful dog asset in the suburb. Lake Hugh Muntz gives you the flatter, quieter loop when the park is busy.
Canal and lake swimming is where the coat work comes in. Unlike surf, brackish canal water leaves silt as well as salt, and it settles into the undercoat rather than sitting on top. A hose off at home moves the obvious stuff. Getting it out properly takes a warm wash and a real blow dry, which is also the point at which we find the grass seeds.

How far is it from Mermaid Waters?
About four minutes to 1/22 Mountain View Avenue, Miami. If you are coming from the Pizzey Park end you are barely on the road. There is a loading zone out the front and free street parking either side.
My dog swims in the canal. Does that need different treatment to the beach?
Yes, and it is the thing most people underestimate. Canal water is brackish and carries silt as well as salt, so it settles into the undercoat rather than sitting on the surface. A hose off at home moves the obvious grit but does not reach the undercoat. For a regular canal swimmer, a wash and blow dry every two to three weeks between full grooms keeps the coat and skin in decent shape.
Do you check for grass seeds?
As standard, and Pizzey Park dogs are the reason. We check pads, between toes, armpits and ears on every dog, because that is where seeds lodge and they do not work their way out on their own. If we find one we can reach safely we remove it and tell you. If it has gone in deep, we tell you to see a vet rather than dig at it.
What does a groom actually cost?
Full grooms start at $100 and washes start at $60. The final price depends on your dog's size, coat type and the condition it arrives in, which is why the booking page asks for size. A matted coat takes longer and costs more, and we would rather be upfront about that than surprise you at pick-up.

Can you handle nervous or senior dogs?
Yes, and it is a big part of what we do. Tell us in the booking notes. We work at the dog's pace, keep the same groomer across visits where we can, and skip the high-velocity dryer for dogs that find it frightening. For very anxious dogs we will often split the job across two shorter visits rather than push through one long one.
Can I book daycare on the same day as a groom?
Yes, and it works well for Mermaid Waters locals who work north. Full day daycare is $50, half day is $35 and capped at five hours. Book them separately and leave a note so we can line the timings up.
Do you offer hand stripping?
No. We do not offer hand stripping. If your dog has a wire coat that genuinely needs it, we will say so rather than clip a coat that should not be clipped.
