Only the operators below confirm dogs are welcome on their own websites, so those are the three we're recommending outright. A few others seem dog-tolerant but don't say so in writing, so we've flagged them as "call first" rather than putting words in their mouth. Checked July 2026.
A licence-free pontoon on the Broadwater is one of the great Gold Coast days out, and plenty of the self-drive operators are happy for the dog to ride shotgun. Here's who says yes in writing, what it costs, and how to keep your first mate safe on the water.
GoBoat Gold Coast, Isle of Capri
The pick of the bunch. Whisper-quiet electric picnic boats for up to eight, no licence needed, and their policy is about as warm as it gets: they love having fur-captains onboard, and the dog doesn't count towards your eight seats. BYO food and drink and putter around the canals. From $149 for an hour, $249 for two, $349 for three.
Capri Boat Hire, Southport
Bow riders for six to eight, plus a twelve-seat BBQ party pontoon, all licence-free out of Southport. Their site says it plainly: dog-friendly, bring your dog along for the ride. Two to four-hour hires run $199 to $499, and a full day is $499 to $649 with fuel, insurance and GST in.

Pontoon boats for up to twelve out of the Southport Fish and Dive Centre, self-drive or with a skipper if you'd rather sit back. Dog-friendly with a sensible cap of two dogs per boat. Handy parking on site and close to the tram.
Keeping the first mate safe on the water
A doggy life jacket is worth it even for strong swimmers, tired dogs and boats don't mix. Bring fresh water and a bowl (salt and canal water upsets stomachs), a towel, and some shade, because there's nowhere to hide from the sun out on the Broadwater. Clip a lead on near ramps and other boats, and give nervous dogs a short first outing rather than a full day. Rinse the salt off once you're back on dry land.
A handful of other operators, including some BBQ pontoons around Hope Island and Runaway Bay and the electric Duffy boats at Surfers, look dog-tolerant but don't spell out a policy online. If you've got your heart set on one of those, give them a ring first and get the yes before you book. And skip anything still listed at Marina Mirage, it's closed for redevelopment.
