Here's the thing about camping with a dog near the Gold Coast: almost every national park bans them, which rules out most of the hinterland's postcard campgrounds. So this list is the ones that genuinely welcome dogs, council parks, holiday parks and private bush camps, all checked in July 2026. Pet rules and fees at holiday parks change with the season, so confirm the current policy when you book.
Whether you want a beachside powered site or a creek-frontage bush camp, there's a dog-welcome option within about ninety minutes. Six of the best below, closest first.
Close to home
BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park, Helensvale (about 25 to 35 minutes)
The closest full-service option, and it markets itself hard as dog-welcoming, with a dedicated dog policy. Powered and unpowered sites plus cabins, a pool and a jumping pillow for the kids. Check which sites and cabins take dogs, and any fees, when you book.
Kirra Beach Tourist Park, Coolangatta (about 25 minutes)
The beachside pick, and council-run, so the policy is stable and published. Kirra Beach is the Gold Coast Tourist Parks network's designated dog-friendly park, with dog-friendly powered sites and a dog-friendly cabin, plus a signed pet guidelines and waiver. Walk to Kirra and Coolangatta. Confirm the current site types and waiver terms on booking.
Pyramid Holiday Park, Tweed Heads (about 30 minutes)
Just over the border, which puts you in reach of the Tweed and southern Gold Coast dog beaches. Dogs are allowed on defined site types, including a specific pets-allowed ensuite site category. Check the pet policy and which sites when you book.
Worth the drive: the Scenic Rim
Bigriggen Park, Rathdowney (about 1 hour 15)
A riverside camping and caravan park on the Logan River headwaters, with river swimming and big open grassy sites. Dogs are welcome subject to registration (there's a pet registration form), so expect on-lead and a bit of paperwork. A genuinely dog-friendly Scenic Rim base near Mt Barney.
Flanagan Reserve Bush Camping, Barney View (about 1 hour 20)
Creekside bush camping on a working property, unpowered and rustic in the best way, with room to spread out. Because it's private land and not a national park, dogs are legitimately allowed. Expect on-lead and livestock-aware conditions, so read their conditions page before you go.
Mt Barney Lodge, Barney View (about 1 hour 30)
The premium wilderness option, and an important distinction: dogs are welcome on the lodge's own private campgrounds, which sit next to Mount Barney National Park, not inside it. Dogs are still banned in the national park itself. Spectacular mountain setting, dark skies, creekside sites. Confirm which campgrounds and the conditions when you book.
The leave-the-dog-at-home list
These are the traps. Dogs are banned from camping in every Queensland national park, so cross Springbrook, Lamington, Tamborine, Main Range and Mount Barney National Park off your list. The catch worth repeating: Mount Barney National Park says no dogs, but Mt Barney Lodge's private campgrounds next door say yes. If a campground has "national park" in the name, assume no dogs and check before you book.
Camping somewhere the dog can't go? If the trip is a national-park hike or a no-dogs site, leave them with us.
