Dog-Friendly Coomera and Upper Coomera: Off-Leash Parks, Cafe, Vets and Stays
The Coomera and Upper Coomera basics
Coomera has grown faster than almost anywhere on the Gold Coast, and the dog parks have kept pace better than you'd think. Council lists off-leash areas in at least seven parks across Coomera and Upper Coomera, including a fenced run at Baker Creek Parklands, a lakeside off-leash area at Tallowwood Park and a riverside park on the Coomera River. There's a cafe in a 120-year-old former Cobb & Co building that welcomes dogs, three vets, and a holiday park with dog-friendly sites. What there isn't, yet, is a dog beach or a stack of dog-friendly pubs, and we'll tell you where we looked.
Last checked 28/10/2026. Every park rule here comes from the council or park authority's own pages, every venue from its own website or socials plus its Google listing, and each fact was checked a second time before we published.
Fenced off-leash: Baker Creek Parklands
If your dog's recall is still a work in progress, start here. Council describes Baker Creek Parklands as having a fenced off-leash dog exercise area with plenty of green space, and says it's a good place for dogs to socialise and for owners to run obedience training. It sits on the corner of Stone Creek Drive and Tamborine Oxenford Road, so it's an easy stop on the way to or from the mountain. See council's Baker Creek Parklands page.
- Where: corner Stone Creek Drive and Tamborine Oxenford Road, Upper Coomera
- Off-leash: fenced area
- Good for: young dogs, recall training, socialising
Tallowwood Park: lake loop and an off-leash area
Tallowwood Park on Rose Valley Drive is the one locals rave about. It's a big parkland beside a lake that's popular with walkers, and it hosts a parkrun. Council says the park has an area where dogs can be exercised off-leash under effective control, plus sheltered picnic areas, a fenced playground with ninja-style equipment, a small bike track and two tennis courts. Walk the lake on a lead, then let them loose in the off-leash area. Dogs stay out of the playground. Council consulted on extending the off-leash area in 2024; we couldn't find a published decision, so follow the signs on the day. See council's Tallowwood Park page.
Coomera Sports Park: off-leash at the Ford Road end
A big sports complex on Beattie Road beside the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre. Council lists a designated off-leash dog exercise area at the Ford Road end of the park. Sports fields take priority during training and games, so weekend mornings can be busy. See council's Coomera Sports Park page.
Address: 53 Beattie Road, Coomera QLD 4209
Neighbourhood off-leash parks in Upper Coomera
These are the smaller, local parks where you'll meet the same dogs every morning. Council doesn't describe them as fenced unless we say so, so they suit dogs with solid recall.
Jacob Court Reserve, Gannon Way. A designated off-leash area with a dedicated fenced space for obedience training, plus a picnic shelter and tables.
Rosemallow Parklands, Rosemallow Avenue. A designated area where dogs can exercise off-leash under effective control.
Diamond Sands Reserve, 31A Diamond Sand Drive. A small neighbourhood park with an off-leash area. Council notes there are no toilets.
John Siganto Park, 639 Reserve Road. A neighbourhood park beside the Coomera River with a playground, barbecues, a shelter and an off-leash area. It's a pretty spot for a sniff along the river, but we couldn't find any source confirming dogs can swim in the river here, so treat it as a walk, not a swim.
Plenty of other Upper Coomera parks are on-lead only, including Abraham Park on Reserve Road, Hetchy Park and Billinghurst Crescent Park, and dogs are banned from every playground. Our fenced and off-leash dog parks guide covers the rest of the city.
What about the Coomera River?
It's the obvious question in a river suburb, and the honest answer is that we couldn't find a council-designated place where dogs can swim in the Coomera River. The river is tidal and busy with boats around the ramps, so we wouldn't send a dog in without a sign that says yes. For a safe swim, the closest option is Saltwater Park on Helensvale Road, Hope Island, where council describes a large fenced off-leash area with an area where dogs can swim. On the Broadwater, the Labrador foreshore is off-leash at all hours and Paradise Point has an off-leash foreshore at its northern end. See our Broadwater dog swims guide.
Coffee with the dog: Pickers & Co
A cafe in a 120-year-old former Cobb & Co building on Tamborine Oxenford Road, with a garden setting that suits dogs far better than a shopping-centre food court. Pickers & Co tells its own followers that paws are always welcome, and it holds 4.7 stars from over 300 Google reviews. Note the short hours and the mid-week closure before you go. See Pickers & Co.
Address: 1/388 Tamborine Oxenford Road, Upper Coomera QLD 4209
Hours: Monday, Thursday and Friday 7am to 1pm, Saturday 7am to 2pm, Sunday 8am to 2pm, closed Tuesday, Wednesday and public holidays
Pubs and Westfield. We checked Coomera Tavern, The Wattle Hotel, Stanley's Barn and the Westfield Coomera precinct. None publishes a dog policy in its own words, so we're not calling any of them dog friendly. For a beer with the dog, Oxenford Tavern's verandah is a short drive away and is pet friendly in the tavern's own words. It's in our Oxenford guide.
Dog-friendly stays in Coomera
Coomera Holiday Village, Upper Coomera. The park's own FAQ says selected caravan and camping sites are pet friendly, and its terms say some sites and accommodation types aren't, so check with reception when you book. It doesn't publish a pet fee or dog limit online. Check-in is from 2pm and check-out by 10am. See Coomera Holiday Village FAQs.
Address: 2 Reserve Road, Upper Coomera QLD 4209
Phone: (07) 5573 1665
BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park, Helensvale. The park's own page says dogs are welcome on all caravan and camping sites, and selected cabins take up to two dogs at no extra charge. Send your dog's vaccination certificate before you arrive, keep them on a lead and never leave them alone. See BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park.
Address: 66-86 Siganto Drive, Helensvale QLD 4212
Worth knowing: Gold Coast Tourist Parks' own pet policy says only its Jacobs Well and Kirra Beach parks take dogs, so the Main Beach and Broadwater tourist parks are a no. For the city-wide list, see our pet friendly accommodation guide and dog-friendly caravan parks guide.

Good to know if you're new to Coomera
- The Coomera Connector: the first northern section, from Shipper Drive to Helensvale Road with a new Coomera River bridge, opened in December 2025, and the central and southern sections are still under construction, according to the state transport department. Expect detours near the work zones.
- Registration: council requires your dog to wear its registration tag, and off-leash dogs must be supervised by someone aged 17 or over who can control them by voice.
- Playgrounds are always off limits, even in parks with an off-leash area. Penalties apply.
- Sports fields take priority during training and games, and you should leave an off-leash area while it's being mowed.
Ticks, grass seeds and heat
Bushy suburban parks are paralysis tick country. Check your dog's head, neck, ears, armpits and between the toes after every walk, and look for grass seeds in paws and ears in the warmer months. On hot days, walk early or late, as footpaths heat up fast. Our ticks and snakes guide covers what to look for.
