Dog-Friendly Arundel, Parkwood and Molendinar: Off-Leash Parks and Stays

6 min read

The Arundel, Parkwood and Molendinar basics

Arundel, Parkwood and Molendinar are quiet, leafy suburbs in Gold Coast terms: no beachfront, no cafe strip, just a lot of homes, a lot of dogs and some genuinely good parks. Between them there are four council off-leash areas, and two of those are fully fenced, one with agility gear. If your dog needs a safe run more than a babyccino, this corner of the Coast has you covered.

Park rules are checked against City of Gold Coast park pages on 27/10/2026. If a sign on the day disagrees, the sign wins.

Abbott Park, Parkwood: fenced, with agility gear

The pick of the bunch. Council lists Abbott Park on Parkwood Boulevard as having a fenced dog exercise area with agility equipment, inside a proper neighbourhood park with shaded playgrounds, a BMX track, a basketball court, fitness stations and barbecues. That makes it an easy whole-family outing: dog in the fenced yard, kids on the bikes, sausages on the barbie. Dogs stay on a lead outside the yard and out of the playgrounds. See council's Abbott Park page.

  • Where: Parkwood Boulevard, Parkwood
  • Off-leash: fenced dog exercise area with agility equipment
  • Also here: drinking fountain, water tap, picnic shelters and tables

Christina Ryan Park, Arundel: fenced and focused

Christina Ryan Park on Napper Road has a fenced off-leash area that council describes as good for socialising and obedience training. One rule to know before you go: the rest of the park is a dog prohibited area, so it's straight in the gate and straight back out. There's a drinking fountain and water tap, plus a picnic shelter and tables for the humans. See council's Christina Ryan Park page.

  • Where: 297 Napper Road, Arundel
  • Off-leash: fenced area only; the rest of the park is dog prohibited

Collingwood Court Parklands, Arundel

A green, tree-shaded park off Olsen Avenue with an off-leash area for dogs under effective control. Council also marks a dog prohibited section here to protect native animals, so check the signs and keep your dog out of it. There's a drinking fountain, picnic tables and a small skate ramp. Council doesn't describe the off-leash area as fenced, so it suits dogs with reliable recall. See council's Collingwood Court Parklands page.

  • Where: 156 Olsen Avenue, Arundel
  • Off-leash: designated area, not described as fenced
  • Watch for: the dog prohibited area protecting native animals

Driftwood Park, Parkwood

A big open park with three playgrounds and picnic areas spread across it, plus a designated off-leash area. Like Collingwood Court, council doesn't call it fenced, so save it for dogs who come back when called. Dogs are prohibited in the playgrounds. See council's Driftwood Park page.

  • Where: 29 Driftwood Place, Parkwood
  • Off-leash: designated area, not described as fenced

Molendinar: on-lead walks

Molendinar doesn't have a council off-leash area of its own. For a good on-lead walk, council describes Your Park on Bloodwood Crescent as a hidden gem, with a long pathway running the length of the park behind the community centre. For an off-leash run, Abbott Park in Parkwood and the Arundel parks above are a short drive away.

On-lead parks to know

Council lists Parkwood Family Park on Henry Cotton Drive and Suntown Sports Park on Napper Road as on-lead parks, with dogs prohibited from playgrounds. Handy for a sniff around the block, but not for a run.

Swims and coffee: head for the Broadwater

None of these suburbs has a cafe that publishes a dog policy, and we'd rather list none than guess. For a swim and a coffee, the Broadwater is a short drive east. The Labrador foreshore at Len Fox Park is off-leash at all hours, and Labrador has a cafe that hands out puppuccinos. Early or late in the day, the Biggera Waters foreshore is off-leash too, and Black Hops there welcomes dogs at its taproom.

Dog-friendly stays nearby

BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park, Helensvale. The park's own page says dogs are welcome on all caravan and camping sites, and selected cabins take up to two dogs at no extra charge. Worth knowing: Gold Coast Tourist Parks' own pet policy says only its Jacobs Well and Kirra Beach parks take dogs, so the Main Beach and Broadwater tourist parks are a no. For the city-wide list, see our pet friendly accommodation guide and dog-friendly caravan parks guide.

After the run: grass seeds and ticks

Bushy suburban parks are tick country, paralysis ticks included. After every run, check the head, neck, ears, armpits and between the toes. In the warmer months, look for grass seeds in paws and ears too. Our ticks and snakes guide covers what to look for.
