Aussiedoodle grooming on the Gold Coast starts with the coat
An Aussiedoodle needs a professional groom every six to eight weeks, a proper brush to the skin a few times a week at home, and a cut that suits the coat your dog actually inherited. That last part is the one most owners don't see coming. At our studio in Miami on the Gold Coast, the first thing we do with any Aussiedoodle is put our hands in the coat, because they don't all come out the same.
The Aussiedoodle is an Australian Shepherd crossed with a Poodle. Depending on which parent shows up in the coat, you can get soft Poodle curls, a straighter coat closer to the Aussie side, or a wave somewhere in between. Some also inherit the merle, or dappled, colouring from the Aussie parent, which is how you end up with a dog that looks like someone flicked a paintbrush at it.

Before and after
Which coat has your Aussiedoodle got?
Curly. The Poodle-leaning coat. Springy curls that tend to shed the least, which sounds like a win until you realise the loose hair stays in the coat instead of landing on the floor. That trapped hair is what turns into knots and mats. A curly Aussiedoodle gets groomed a lot like a curly Doodle, with a clip or a scissored shape.
Wavy. The in-between coat. It's soft, it moves, it can look shaggy fast, and it tangles quietly in the friction spots until one day the brush won't go through. Wavy coats suit both a one-length clip and a shaped scissor cut.
Straighter. The Aussie-leaning coat. It usually sheds more than a curly coat and behaves more like the Australian Shepherd side. We groom these more like an Aussie, with a thorough brush-out, a warm bath, a high-velocity blow dry and a neat tidy, and we talk to you before we take any real length off.
Whichever coat you've got, we check it fresh at every visit and groom what's in front of us, not what the breed label says.
Do Aussiedoodles shed?
Some do, some barely do, and it mostly comes down to the coat. Curlier, more Poodle-like coats tend to shed less and drop less dander. Straighter coats from the Aussie side shed more. No Aussiedoodle is guaranteed hypoallergenic, because no dog is, so if anyone in your house has allergies, spend time with the actual dog before you commit.
Low shedding doesn't mean low maintenance. The less a coat sheds, the more it needs brushing and regular grooming, because all that loose hair has nowhere to go.
What happens in an Aussiedoodle groom at Pets Juicy
Every groom starts with a quick chat at check-in. We look at the coat, feel for mats, ask how your dog's been going and agree on the cut before anything happens. Then it's a brush-out, a warm bath with Melanie Newman salon products, a full blow dry that lifts the coat and shows up any hidden knots, then the clip or scissor work, face, feet and sanitary tidy, ears and nails. An Aussiedoodle groom takes one and a half to two hours from start to finish, so it's never a rush job.
Aussiedoodle haircuts: Full Groom or Style Groom?
When people search for an Aussiedoodle haircut, they're usually choosing between two jobs, and those are the two grooms we offer.
Full Groom. Our Full Dog Groom + Warm Bath is one blade length all over, plus a face, feet and sanitary tidy. It's the practical cut: easy to brush, quick to dry after a swim, less sand trapped in the coat and fewer places for mats to start. It suits beach dogs, busy households and any Aussiedoodle whose coat has a habit of knotting up.
Style Groom. Our Style Dog Groom + Warm Bath is the scissor work. Think a rounded teddy face, a shaped head and legs left a little fuller. It's the cut for owners who want that fluffy Doodle look and are happy to keep up the brushing that goes with it. Snickers, one of our Aussiedoodle regulars, is a good example of what a Full Groom does. Snickers came in shaggy, with the coat hanging right over the eyes, and went home with a tidy merle coat and eyes you could actually see. You can see Snickers' before and after on this page.
Matting: where Aussiedoodles knot up
Aussiedoodles are prone to knots and mats, and Gold Coast humidity, salt and sand speed the whole thing up. The usual trouble spots are behind the ears, under the collar, in the armpits, between the back legs and around the base of the tail.
If your Aussiedoodle comes in matted, we'll talk it through at check-in. We clip in under the mats rather than brushing them out painfully, because dragging a brush through a tight mat hurts and teaches a dog to hate grooming. The coat grows back, and the fresh start makes home brushing far easier.
Between grooms, brush a few times a week with a slicker brush and finish with a metal comb, working from the skin out. If the comb glides through, that section is clear. If it catches, go back. After a swim or a wet walk, dry the coat first and brush once it's no longer damp.
Gold Coast extras: grass seeds, swims and ears
Aussiedoodles have plenty of energy and love to run, so most of them come back from a walk carrying half the park. From late spring into summer, grass seeds are the one to watch. Vets note that long-haired, low-shedding dogs are at higher risk, and the paws are the most common spot, followed by ears, nose and eyes. Check between the toes after every walk, keep the coat combed so seeds can't hide, and keep the feet neat. A feet tidy is part of every Full Groom.
If your Aussiedoodle loves the water, look after the ears. Dry the ear openings after every swim and check them weekly for redness, smell or dark wax. We clean and check ears at every visit and let you know if anything looks worth a vet visit. We're groomers, not vets, so we flag things rather than diagnose them.
Nervous Aussiedoodles and first grooms
Aussiedoodles are smart dogs and they learn quickly what they like and what they don't. If yours is unsure about grooming, we slow right down. That means one-on-one time, a calmer pace, calming ear wraps for the dryer and stopping early if it's all too much, so the next visit starts from a good place. Here's how we approach nervous dog grooming in Miami.
For puppies, a short, gentle first visit makes every groom after it easier. Our Puppy Introduction Groom lets them meet the bath, the dryer and the handling at their own pace.
Which size do I book for my Aussiedoodle?
Aussiedoodles come in a range of sizes, so go by your own dog rather than the breed. Our size bands are small under 10kg, medium 10 to 20kg, large 20 to 35kg and extra large 35kg and up. Most Aussiedoodles land in medium or large. If your dog sits between two sizes, book the bigger one so we've got the time to do the job properly.

Best haircut in 16 years for my spoodle

Sami looked and felt absolutely fabulous after her long haired deshedding service. The team did an awesome job with my golden girl who hates her nails being trimmed. Our vet couldn’t manage trimming Sami’s nails without sedation but the team ensured she had a proper and perfect dogicure. Being a water lover, Sami had some matting which the team were able to also tidy. 10/10
Awesome open space, needed for our local area
This was our first time at Pets Juicy and we were very impressed with our visit. It’s a very friendly space and I liked how my pup was able to hang out with the day care dogs while he waited for his cut. I would highly recommend Pets Juicy . I popped in this morning to see if they could possibly trim my 14 year old Boxers nail's.
I was in Awe... usually Ruby is a shaking mess and stressed in new situations.
Shane took Ruby through to the grooming room and tender to those nails while I waited.
What I witnessed was a serene/happy atmosphere in the doggy daycare area and Ruby was relaxed on the grooming table while her nails were attended to.

Amazing service! After being told by multiple groomers across the GC they weren’t taking on anymore large breed clients, I came across Pets Juicy who were more than happy to help. Both dogs groomed the next day and was better priced than I expected! Will definitely be using them from now on.
