Dog grooming in Coolangatta

Coolangatta is the far southern end and we are not going to pretend we are around the corner. We are about twenty-five minutes north in Miami. What we can promise is that the trip is worth making: the same groomer every visit, appointments that are not rushed, and a full day of daycare so one drive does the whole job.

Built for Coolangatta dogs

Coolangatta, Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay make up the most beach-dependent corner of the Gold Coast, and the dogs live accordingly. Marine Parade in the morning, the headland walk around Point Danger, the long stretch of Kirra when the wind is right.

The coat consequences are the same as anywhere on the sand, only more so, because these dogs are rarely off it. Salt dries into the coat and draws moisture out of the skin. Sand works into the pads, behind the ears and under the legs. On any double-coated dog that combination compacts into matting close to the skin, well before anything looks wrong from the top.

Given the distance, we would rather set you up properly than see you constantly. Most of our far southern clients run a full groom every six to eight weeks paired with a full day of daycare, so the drive covers both and the dog comes home clean, tired and sorted for the next two months. If a shorter cycle is genuinely needed we will say so, but we are not going to invent one to fill the diary.

What happens when you book

  1. You book online, not over the phone. Pick the service, size and time. Afterpay is available at checkout. Online-only booking is deliberate: it means nobody is juggling a phone while holding a nervous whippet.
  2. You tell us about your dog. Anxious, arthritic, hates the dryer, went badly somewhere else last time. All useful. None of it is a problem, and knowing in advance changes how we run the appointment.
  3. Same groomer, every time. Shane heads up the team with Risa, Callie and Anna. We keep dogs with the same stylist wherever the diary allows, because a dog that recognises the person holding the clippers is a dog that stands still.
  4. We work at the dog's pace. No stacked appointments, no rushing a senior dog through a dryer because the next one is waiting. If a dog needs a break, it gets one.
  5. You get an honest update. If we found a hot spot, a grass seed, an ear that needs a vet or matting that meant we had to go shorter than you wanted, we tell you at pick-up and we tell you why.

The breeds we see most from Coolangatta

Down the southern end we see a lot of Staffies, Labradors, Kelpies, Cattle Dogs, Border Collies and Cavoodles, with a good number of Jack Russells and Fox Terriers.

Working breeds and double coats dominate, and they are the ones most often clipped when they should be deshed. Our breed notes explain the difference properly: Australian Cattle Dog grooming, Kelpie grooming, Staffy grooming, Jack Russell and Fox Terrier grooming and the full breed library.

We do not offer hand stripping. On a wire-coated terrier that matters, so we will tell you straight rather than clip a coat that should not be clipped.

Kirra, Greenmount, Rainbow Bay and where dogs can actually go

The southern beaches are the best walking on the Coast and the rules catch a lot of people out.

Dogs are allowed on leash on most Gold Coast beaches, except in designated dog prohibited areas, and they are not permitted within 200 metres of the flagged areas. The City has designated only three beach locations where dogs can be exercised off leash: Tallebudgera Beach, Palm Beach and The Spit. That last point surprises a lot of people. Council rules do change, so it is worth checking the City of Gold Coast dog exercise areas page before you go. We last checked it on 11 August 2026.

So none of the Coolangatta beaches are off-leash. The nearest designated off-leash sand is Palm Beach, about fifteen minutes north. Worth knowing before you let the dog go on an empty stretch of Kirra at seven in the morning.

The other thing worth doing is rinsing with fresh water before the coat dries. It does not reach the undercoat and it does not replace a wash and blow dry, but it slows the salt damage to the skin considerably, and on a long-drive client like you it makes the gap between grooms much easier to manage.

For a proper day out, our verified guides cover dog friendly beaches, dog friendly walks and dog friendly day trips.

Questions from Coolangatta dog owners

How far is it really from Coolangatta?

Roughly twenty-two to twenty-six minutes north along the Gold Coast Highway to Mountain View Avenue, Miami, and longer in holiday traffic. We are not going to pretend that is convenient. Most of our southern clients make it work by pairing a groom with a full day of daycare so one trip does everything.

Why would I drive that far when there are groomers in Coolangatta?

Only for specific reasons. You get the same groomer every visit, appointments that are not stacked so nothing is rushed, and an honest update at pick-up including anything we would rather you heard than not. If none of that matters much to you, a closer groomer is the sensible choice and we would say so.

Can I combine a groom with a full day of daycare?

Yes, and for Coolangatta it is the only sensible way to run it. Full day daycare is $50 and half day is $35, capped at five hours, with small group sizes and structured rest periods. Book both, leave a note, and we will line up the timings so you make one drive.

Can my dog go off-leash at Kirra or Rainbow Bay?

No. None of the Coolangatta beaches are designated off-leash areas. The nearest is Palm Beach, about fifteen minutes north. On Gold Coast beaches generally, dogs must be on leash except in designated areas and are not permitted within 200 metres of the flagged areas. Council rules change, so confirm before you go.

What does a groom actually cost?

Full grooms start at $100 and washes start at $60. The final price depends on your dog's size, coat type and the condition it arrives in, which is why the booking page asks for size. A matted coat takes longer and costs more, and we would rather be upfront about that than surprise you at pick-up.

When are you open and how do I book?

Tuesday to Saturday, 8am to 4pm, at 1/22 Mountain View Avenue, Miami. Booking is online only, which keeps the phone quiet and the studio calm. Pick your service and size on the booking page and choose a time that suits.

Do you take Afterpay?

Yes. Afterpay is available at online checkout on grooming, washing and daycare, including daycare packages.

Can you handle nervous or senior dogs?

Yes, and it is a big part of what we do. Tell us in the booking notes. We work at the dog's pace, keep the same groomer across visits where we can, and skip the high-velocity dryer for dogs that find it frightening. For very anxious dogs we will often split the job across two shorter visits rather than push through one long one.

Do you offer hand stripping?

No. We do not offer hand stripping. If your dog has a wire coat that genuinely needs it, we will say so rather than clip a coat that should not be clipped.
