Dog grooming in Tugun

Tugun keeps a quieter version of Gold Coast beach life, and the dogs get the benefit. There's long sand, fewer crowds and Currumbin Creek up the road. Pets Juicy is about eighteen minutes north in Miami, with calm grooms, warm washes and full-day daycare Tuesday to Saturday.

How far from Tugun

Around seventeen to nineteen minutes north along the Gold Coast Highway through Currumbin and Palm Beach to Mountain View Avenue, Miami. It's a real drive, so it's worth making the trip count.

Built for Tugun dogs

Tugun has held onto something the northern end lost a while ago. The village strip is small, the beach is long and quiet, and Currumbin Creek is close enough to be the default weekend outing. Dogs here are outdoor dogs almost without exception.

That means constant salt and sand. Salt that dries in a coat pulls moisture out of the skin and makes the guard hairs brittle, and sand packs into pads, behind ears and under legs. On any dog with an undercoat that's how matting starts, in the places nobody checks until it's already a problem.

We're honest about the drive. Tugun isn't five minutes away, so we'd rather you got more out of each visit than came more often. Most Tugun clients run a full groom every six to eight weeks and pair it with a full day of daycare, so the trip does two jobs and the dog comes home clean and completely worn out.

The breeds we see most from Tugun

Around Tugun and Bilinga we see plenty of Staffies, Labradors, Kelpies, Border Collies and Cavoodles, plus a steady run of Jack Russells and Fox Terriers.

We don't offer hand stripping, which is worth knowing if you have a wire-coated terrier. We'll tell you rather than clip a coat that shouldn't be clipped.

Tugun Beach, Currumbin Creek and the rules

The southern beaches are quieter, which leads a lot of people to assume the rules are looser. They're not.

Tugun and Bilinga are on-leash beaches, however empty they look. The nearest designated off-leash sand is Palm Beach, about ten minutes north, which is worth knowing before you get a fine rather than after.

Currumbin Creek is the other big one for Tugun dogs, and creek water behaves like a mix of the two problems: some salt, plus silt that settles into the undercoat and compacts as it dries. A rinse before the coat dries really helps, even though it won't replace a wash and blow dry.
