Built for Tugun dogs

Tugun has held onto something the northern end lost a while ago. The village strip is small, the beach is long and quiet, and Currumbin Creek is close enough to be the default weekend outing. Dogs here are outdoor dogs almost without exception.

Which means salt and sand, constantly. Salt that dries in a coat pulls moisture out of the skin and makes the guard hairs brittle, and sand packs into pads, behind ears and under legs. On any dog with an undercoat that is how matting starts, in the places nobody checks until it is already a problem.

We are honest about the drive. Tugun is not five minutes away, so we would rather you got more out of each visit than came more often. Most Tugun clients run a full groom every six to eight weeks and pair it with a full day of daycare, so the trip does two jobs and the dog comes home clean and completely worn out.

What happens when you book

  1. You book online, not over the phone. Pick the service, size and time. Afterpay is available at checkout. Online-only booking is deliberate: it means nobody is juggling a phone while holding a nervous whippet.
  2. You tell us about your dog. Anxious, arthritic, hates the dryer, went badly somewhere else last time. All useful. None of it is a problem, and knowing in advance changes how we run the appointment.
  3. Same groomer, every time. Shane heads up the team with Risa, Callie and Anna. We keep dogs with the same stylist wherever the diary allows, because a dog that recognises the person holding the clippers is a dog that stands still.
  4. We work at the dog's pace. No stacked appointments, no rushing a senior dog through a dryer because the next one is waiting. If a dog needs a break, it gets one.
  5. You get an honest update. If we found a hot spot, a grass seed, an ear that needs a vet or matting that meant we had to go shorter than you wanted, we tell you at pick-up and we tell you why.

The breeds we see most from Tugun

Around Tugun and Bilinga we see plenty of Staffies, Labradors, Kelpies, Border Collies and Cavoodles, plus a steady run of Jack Russells and Fox Terriers.

Short-coated beach dogs need less clipping and more skin attention than people expect, and the double coats need deshedding rather than clipping. Our breed notes cover it: Staffy grooming, Kelpie grooming, Jack Russell and Fox Terrier grooming, Border Collie grooming and the full breed library.

We do not offer hand stripping, which is worth knowing if you have a wire-coated terrier. We will tell you rather than clip a coat that should not be clipped.

Tugun Beach, Currumbin Creek and the rules

The southern beaches are quieter, which leads a lot of people to assume the rules are looser. They are not.

Dogs are allowed on leash on most Gold Coast beaches, except in designated dog prohibited areas, and they are not permitted within 200 metres of the flagged areas. The City has designated only three beach locations where dogs can be exercised off leash: Tallebudgera Beach, Palm Beach and The Spit. That last point surprises a lot of people. Council rules do change, so it is worth checking the City of Gold Coast dog exercise areas page before you go. We last checked it on 11 August 2026.

So Tugun and Bilinga are on-leash beaches regardless of how empty they look. The nearest designated off-leash sand is Palm Beach, about ten minutes north, which is worth knowing before you get a fine rather than after.

Currumbin Creek is the other big one for Tugun dogs, and creek water behaves like a mix of the two problems: some salt, plus silt that settles into the undercoat and compacts as it dries. Rinsing before the coat dries genuinely helps. It does not replace a wash and blow dry, but it slows the damage down.

For bigger outings, our verified guides cover dog friendly beaches, dog friendly walks and dog friendly camping.

Questions from Tugun dog owners

How long is the drive from Tugun?

Around seventeen to nineteen minutes north along the Gold Coast Highway through Currumbin and Palm Beach to Mountain View Avenue, Miami. It is a genuine drive, so most Tugun clients make the trip count by combining a groom with a day of daycare.

Is it worth the drive when there are closer groomers?

That is a fair question and the honest answer is that it depends what you want. If you need a quick tidy up, closer is probably better. If you want the same groomer every visit, unrushed appointments, and someone who will tell you the truth about your dog's coat rather than upsell you, that is what we are set up for. A lot of our southern clients come every six to eight weeks rather than more often, and combine it with daycare.

Can I drop the dog for a full day and get a groom done in the same visit?

Yes, and for Tugun it is the sensible way to do it. A full day of daycare is $50 and a half day is $35, capped at five hours. Book the daycare and the groom separately, leave a note, and we will line the timings up so you make one trip.

Can my dog go off-leash at Tugun Beach?

No. Tugun and Bilinga are on-leash beaches, no matter how empty they look. The nearest designated off-leash sand is Palm Beach, about ten minutes north. On Gold Coast beaches generally, dogs must be on leash except in designated areas and are not permitted within 200 metres of the flagged areas. Council rules change, so confirm before you go.

What does a groom actually cost?

Full grooms start at $100 and washes start at $60. The final price depends on your dog's size, coat type and the condition it arrives in, which is why the booking page asks for size. A matted coat takes longer and costs more, and we would rather be upfront about that than surprise you at pick-up.

When are you open and how do I book?

Tuesday to Saturday, 8am to 4pm, at 1/22 Mountain View Avenue, Miami. Booking is online only, which keeps the phone quiet and the studio calm. Pick your service and size on the booking page and choose a time that suits.

Do you take Afterpay?

Yes. Afterpay is available at online checkout on grooming, washing and daycare, including daycare packages.

Can you handle nervous or senior dogs?

Yes, and it is a big part of what we do. Tell us in the booking notes. We work at the dog's pace, keep the same groomer across visits where we can, and skip the high-velocity dryer for dogs that find it frightening. For very anxious dogs we will often split the job across two shorter visits rather than push through one long one.

Do you offer hand stripping?

No. We do not offer hand stripping. If your dog has a wire coat that genuinely needs it, we will say so rather than clip a coat that should not be clipped.
