Broadbeach with a Dog: Off-Leash Park, Beach Rules and Cafes
The Broadbeach basics
Broadbeach is one of the easier Gold Coast suburbs to share with a dog, because it has its own off-leash area on the beachfront. Pratten Park south of Margaret Avenue, opposite Broadbeach State School, is a council off-leash zone with no time limits. The beach is lead-on, and dogs must stay 200 metres from the flags, which go up from 8am to 5pm at four towers every day of the year. Walk the Oceanway on a lead, let them run at Pratten, then grab a coffee at an outdoor table. We groom Broadbeach dogs ten minutes south in Miami, so this is the morning we'd plan for our own.
Rules are checked against council's Animal Control Area Register (consolidated 28/07/2026) and venues on 13/10/2026. If a sign on the day disagrees, the sign wins.
The beach: Kurrawa and Broadbeach, on a lead
Council splits the sand in two. Kurrawa runs from Hedges Avenue past the surf club, and Broadbeach carries on north to Wharf Road. There are six lifeguard towers between them, and dogs are prohibited within 200 metres of any flagged swimming area.

All six patrol 8am to 5pm when on. With towers this close together, most of the sand is off limits while the flags are up, so walk the beach before 8am or after 5pm. The register doesn't list a dog prohibited zone on this sand, but keep heading north and Surfers Paradise beach, from Tower 33 at Clifford Street to Tower 37 at Higman Street, is dog prohibited at all times. Off-leash in Broadbeach: Pratten Park
Council designates Pratten Park south of Margaret Avenue as an off-leash area, with no time limit in the register. The Oceanway path through it is excluded, so the lead goes back on when you step onto the path. It's open grass under big shady trees with the dunes along one side, but council doesn't describe it as fenced and Old Burleigh Road runs down the other side, so it suits dogs with solid recall. Dogs are prohibited in both of the park's playgrounds. Council's Pratten Park page has the details.
More off-leash space nearby
Albert Park, Broadbeach Waters. Council says most of this big park on Monaco Street is off-leash. A 1.7 kilometre loop winds past Rialto Lake, the better pick when Pratten feels too close to traffic. The fenced playground is off limits.
Hibiscus Park, Broadbeach Waters. An off-leash area on Allambi Avenue, added to the register in June 2025, handy if you're staying on the canal side of the highway.
Pizzey Park, Mermaid Waters. A few minutes south, with an off-leash area around the lake. It's our local, and our fenced and off-leash dog parks guide covers the rest of the city.
Cascade Gardens: on a lead, whatever the internet says
Plenty of websites wrongly call Cascade Gardens an off-leash dog park. Council's park page says dogs must be walked on leash unless otherwise signed and are totally prohibited in children's playgrounds, and the gardens aren't in the off-leash register. Treat it as a slow on-lead sniff along the rainforest paths and the Nerang River pathway. Council's Cascade Gardens page has location and parking.
The Oceanway through Broadbeach
The Oceanway is the 36 kilometre shared path from the border to the Seaway, and in Broadbeach it runs through Kurrawa and Pratten parks beside the beach. Council's rule for the whole path is dogs on a lead. It's busy with bikes, so keep the lead short. This section is lit at night, good for cooler summer evening walks.
Kurrawa Park and The Coastal Markets
Kurrawa Park is the beachfront lawn opposite The Oasis. Dogs are welcome on a lead, though not in the playgrounds, and Pratten's off-leash area is right next door.
The Coastal Markets, Kurrawa Park. You might know it as Art and Craft on the Coast. It now runs as The Coastal Markets under new management, on the first and third Sunday of each month from 8am to 2pm, and the market's own site lists it as pet friendly, on leash. Dog-friendly cafes and restaurants in Broadbeach
Plenty of people search for dog-friendly restaurants in Broadbeach, but very few venues here publish a dog policy. Where dogs are welcome, it's at the outdoor tables. These two passed our checks.
Elk Espresso, The Oasis. On the beachfront edge of The Oasis facing Kurrawa Park, and in Elk's own words it happily accepts well behaved dogs in its outdoor dining areas. It's a short stroll up the Oceanway from Pratten. See Elk Espresso.

Banksy Bar & Kitchen, The Spot. Named after the owners' Vizsla, from the Quest Coffee team in Burleigh. There's outdoor seating, plus a coffee window on the side that local guides point out for people with dogs in tow. Ask for an outside table. See Banksy Bar & Kitchen.

After the walk: sand, salt and ticks
Rinse your dog with fresh water before the salt dries, working into the belly, armpits, paws and ears. The dune edges and the Cascade Gardens paths are tick country, paralysis ticks included, so check the head, neck, ears and between the toes after every walk. When sand has packed into a thick coat or the beach smell won't shift, a warm bath and blow dry at our studio gets it out properly.

Had such a good experience at Pets Juicy. My dog Monty had the worst mats in his ears and I was honestly so stressed about it. Best haircut in 16 years for my spoodle
I’ve brought my two pups to Pet’s Juicy a few times now, and every visit has been such a positive experience. The team is incredibly gentle, caring, and clearly loves what they do! Sami looked and felt absolutely fabulous after her long haired deshedding service. The team did an awesome job with my golden girl who hates her nails being trimmed. Our vet couldn’t manage trimming Sami’s nails without sedation but the team ensured she had a proper and perfect dogicure. Being a water lover, Sami had some matting which the team were able to also tidy. 10/10
Awesome open space, needed for our local area
This was our first time at Pets Juicy and we were very impressed with our visit. It’s a very friendly space and I liked how my pup was able to hang out with the day care dogs while he waited for his cut. Also the staff was very accommodating, booking was easy and prices were very reasonable. We will definitely be back!

Highly recommend the Pets juicy team to look after your furry babies. I was so hesitant and nervous as I’d never had my dogs previously looked after but moving interstate and trying to take our family to theme parks left me no choice but to bite the bullet and try. I would highly recommend Pets Juicy . I popped in this morning to see if they could possibly trim my 14 year old Boxers nail's.
I was in Awe... usually Ruby is a shaking mess and stressed in new situations.
Shane took Ruby through to the grooming room and tender to those nails while I waited.

Amazing service! After being told by multiple groomers across the GC they weren’t taking on anymore large breed clients, I came across Pets Juicy who were more than happy to help. Both dogs groomed the next day and was better priced than I expected! Will definitely be using them from now on.
